Love is in the Air!
February, with the celebration of Valentine’s Day this is the month that represents love. Along with sharing thoughts of love, many choose to get engaged or married during this month. When you think of Love is in the Air, what family stories does is bring to mind? Do you have engagement or wedding stories to share? Do you have examples of love of family members to share? None of these events need to have happened in February, this month is just a catalyst to help us remember and record these important days the lives of our ancestors.
My parents have been married for over 56 years. The story of how they met has become a family legend. All the Grandchildren know it and love to tell it. I wrote about their meeting at the high school football field in Camden, South Carolina a couple of years ago in a post called How My Dad Met My Mother.
My maternal Great Grandparents had quite the elopement story! To read about how my great grandmother snuck out of the house read my post A Tricky Elopement.
A poignant statement of love was discovered in my maternal Great Aunt’s Bible after her death. You can see what she wrote after the death of her loved ones .
And then there’s this tribute to my parent’s love story that I posted on Valentine’s Day, 2014.
What stories or antidotes show that “love is in the air” for your ancestors? Do you have love notes, valentines of other ephemera from days gone by?
You can participate in this month’s GeneaChat by writing a blog post sharing your experiences with our topic and leaving the link in the comments below. If you don’t have a blog, you may also join in the fun by using the comment section to share your ancestor’s stories.
