#IDGChat: February Brick Walls

For our next chat, we have received a message from Gloria. Here is her brick wall:

I have long tried to find land grants given to my ancestor, Ludwig Herdes/Hertes, later americanized name to Lewis Hartis. Thru the Hetrina Volumes in Carolina Room at Charlotte’s Main library, I found him listed where he was to receive one, but have never had it confirmed thru landgrant listing.

I have found and copied a deed, where he conveyed 100 acres in Cabarrus County thru a deed found at Meck Register of Deeds. I know he received this acreage some where, but cannot find where, as of yet. The deed is dated, 1788. I am now wondering, was Cabarrus Co part of Mecklenburg County at this time and should I be going to Cabarrus County Register of Deeds?

We will meet on Feb 21st at 8pm EST to discuss this brick wall on twitter. We will be using www.tchat.io to follow the conversation. All you have to do is sign in with your twitter account and follow #IDGChat. We hope to see you there!

If you have a brick wall that you need some assistance with, please feel free to leave your link or information in the comments below and we will try to discuss them as well. If not, please make sure to get your brick wall in by February 7th for discussion on the 21st.
