Who We Are
Terri O'Connell (Finding Our Ancestors), Jennifer Alford (Jenealogy), and Heather Reed are the faces behind The In-Depth Genealogist. However, they couldn't do what they do without their writers, contributors, and supporters. Terri is working as a professional genealogist. In her day job, Jennifer is a Professional Engineer focused on traffic and by night works as a genealogist, specializing in Jewish genealogy research and designing beautiful ways to share your research. Heather completed a B.A. and M.A.in Political Science with a minor in History.
How We Came to Be
The In-Depth Genealogist originally began as an email newsletter for Stephanie Pitcher Fishman's Corn and Cotton Genealogy written by various genealogists. What started as a small monthly newsletter became part of a larger idea when Terri volunteered to help Stephanie with an upcoming issue, and Jen Baldwin contributed on both The Family Atlas and Featured Genealogist columns. Jennifer completed the team in February 2013. Little did they all know, The In-Depth Genealogist would become so much more to each of them. As IDG has grown, the challenges of balancing our many hats resulted in Stephanie and Jen's decision to leave the leadership team. They are now quite busy with their own businesses and family lives. We were sad to see them go, but we each have to choose our own paths in life. For several years, Shannon Combs Bennett was our Creative Director until she had an opportunity too big to pass up. Last year, Heather Reed joined the team bringing her educational background in online learning to the table. Now Jennifer, Heather, and Terri split the workload in putting out a monthly magazine, keeping up with the blog, and more!
